Make your (iPad) stand!

(I´ll do this post in Norwegian, since it details parts bought at the Scandinavian-only Biltema outlets.)

Du har gått til anskaffelse av en iPad, men oppdager kjapt et behov for et stativ/stand. Hva gjør du? Du gjør det enhver mann vil gjøre – drar til nærmeste Biltema!

Jeg innser muligens at jeg befinner meg i en selektiv gruppe basert på denne beskrivelsen. Folk flest ville vel heller gå på nett og bestille seg en stand. Og det mangler selvsagt ikke på artige alternativer på nett (f.eks denne av lego), men flere av disse virker enten pinglete (det går knapt an å trykke på skjermen når den står i stativet/standen) eller lite praktiske. Hvis du liker trevirke og virkelig har lav kassabeholdning, kan denne fra Clas Ohlson til rettt under 30 sikkert fungere finfint.

Men jeg ønsker å dele noen oppskrifter på solide og relativt billige hjemmelagde “stands” basert på noen hyllevarer – utelukkende fra Biltema.

Fantasien begrenser.

Jeg presenterer bare to modeller her – “Ironman” (bildet øverst) og “Skjærebrett” (bildet over). Begge slengt sammen av et lite knippe komponenter fra hylllene på Biltema. Med noen “basiskomponenter” på plass, er det meget enkelt å mekke et uttall varianter.

Så hva trenger man, og hva koster det?

For å ende opp med “Ironman”, trenger du komponentene på bildet ovenfor. Jeg har laget en innkjøpsliste med artikkelnummer her. Du ender da opp med den nette sum av kroner 194,90. Merk: Du må ikke kjøpe flere ulike typer “Møbelbeskyttelse” (knottene/filten som beskytter iPaden din), da sparer du 40 kroner. Du kan også spare noen kroner hvis du har skruer og muttere liggende hjemme. For den gjerrige er det altså mulig å kutte STORE kostnader.

Hvis modellen med det forhåpentligvis beskrivende navnet “Skjærebrett” er mer i din gate, så beløper denne seg til kroner 165,20. Innkjøpsliste her. Da får du med på kjøpet en stor fjøl til overs (denne formelig skriker etter å bli brukt som laptopstand – se bildet under).

Og hvis du ikke likte stativet ditt, så er det jo bare å demontere, så har du deler liggende til neste oppusningsprosjekt i hjemmet (eller et par fjøler ekstra). Så hva venter du på? Løp til nærmeste butikk.

PS: Jeg er hverken sponset av Apple eller Biltema. Du må ikke dra på Biltema for delene til stand/stativ, da du kan få disse varene mange steder.

PS2: Stativene beskrevet er i daglig bruk og fungerer helt fint (ingen problemer med varme mht materialer eller lignende så langt).

Depending on your view, Jesse Schell (who teaches game design at Carnegie Mellon) is – in the last half of this talk – describing a utopia of daily fun and rewards, or a corporate-manipulated nightmare society. No matter what your view, this talk is inspiring for game designers, especially those interested in using Facebook and other social media. Schell has some pretty good psychological insights and some crazy ideas for reward systems, and he talks FAST, so pay attention!

Gold Award for Gule Sider

We are very happy to announce that we won the Gold Award at the norwegian Gulltaggen Festival for Gule Sider, the first Augmented Reality application ever made in Norway. We also won a diploma for our “TV 2 Sporten 2009″ iPhone app (Please note that we have not developed the TV 2 Sporten 2010 version), which means we got rewarded for two out of three competition entries.This is truly inspiring- and we are already hard at work trying to create more cutting-edge mobile app experiences!

Big ups to the nice people at INMA. They have every reason in the world to be proud of this year’s conference. Great speeches and a well-crafted program made for a really great experience.

iPad Keynote Template

It´s Friday – and it´s time for some goodies. After the arrival of the iPad (and Keynote for the iPad), I tried to find a template for making mock-ups in Keynote for use on the iPad. I couldn´t find any (maybe I didn´t try too hard), so I decided to make one. Voila!

Start streamlining!

For what it´s worth on a Friday afternoon: As the iPad is getting closer to our hands – I say: Start the streamlining! What do I mean? Well, it´s pretty obvious. If you run an online publication, the consumer (or reader/user if you like) should be able to identify you – and get to your core functionality – on all devices. I would say the need now becomes even more evident as the iPad is nearing. With the iPad in our hands (and the dozen of other tablets) – the benefit for working out an overall synonymous look and functionality between the phone-tablet-laptop/desktop should become evident. So start the streamlining immediately!

Finland here we come

It’s a pleasure to announce that Agens has made an agreement on the delivery of an advergame into a new market for us: The Land of the Thousand Lakes (in fact, there are 187888 lakes i Finland). It is Microsoft Finland who is the proud customer, and the advergame is a variation of the Rock Paper Scissors-game that we have previously made for Windows Live Messenger in both Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands. So now the Finnish can soon challenge their friends online, across the 187888 lakes, with an Agens-game.

iPhone in Norway

Agens will be joining the seminar “iPhone in Norway“, Tuesday, February 9th. This Norwegian only event is a “seminar on the Norwegian iPhone industry’s experience after eighteen months in the iTunes App Store” (to use the words of Google Translate).

Our contribution to this seminar will pertain to game-development for the iPhone and our experience with advergames for the web. The seminar is hosted by Shortcut and IKT Norge.

13 million in one month

After being online for only one month, Holmenkollen Ski Jump 2 has been played more than 13 million times.

The first version of the game, released december 2006 , has been played 130 million times, but the sequel is likely to catch up very fast.
The game has also- just as its predecessor- generated a lot of clicks to visitnorway.com and the other game sponsors. Particularly the YouTube-video, promoting Norway as a tourist destination has been very popular with over 40 000 views generated.

So far, the longest jump is 161.0 meters. Can you beat it?

Agens Championship o’09

Last Wednesday we had the epic championship of the year. 6 long hours with battling and fighting in sports, knowledge and computer games. Curling, quiz, Kvitsund TowerDefence3, Holmenkollen Ski Jump 2 and stone-scissor-paper. I tried my best, Kim tried his best (as the video shows you) – we all did our best. But we were all losers except for one winner. One man beat us to the ground by being average in all sports. An excellent strategy by the champion who won it all, Aleksander! Congratulations!

Champ of 2009, Alexander:

We ended it all at Oslo’s Tak – a gourmet restaurant on Grefsenkollen. We were stunned by quality, food and service. It was delicious.
