  • Crafting Norway's favourite children's app.

Fantorangen is one of Norway's most recognised children's characters, and the companion app is of the country's most widely used digital experiences for young children. Together with NRK, we designed and built an experience that brings the playful universe of Fantorangen from television into children's everyday lives.

  • A young child absorbed in play indoors, reaching out in warm low light
  • Toddler-friendly fun.

From the very beginning, our goal was simple: create a collection of mini games that toddlers would genuinely enjoy returning to. We designed the visuals, game mechanics, interface, animation, sound design and overall user experience, creating a cohesive world that feels unmistakably like Fantorangen.

  • Learning through everyday moments.

Many of the activities are built around routines children already know. Brushing teeth, eating healthy meals, taking a bath or getting dressed become playful challenges that encourage curiosity rather than instruction. The educational value is woven naturally into the gameplay, allowing children to learn through interaction instead of explanation.

  • The laundry room: Fantorangen perched on the washing machine with a toy lamb and clothes to sort
  • All thumbs. No words.

Designing for children who cannot yet read changes everything. Navigation, feedback and game mechanics all have to be understood through images, sound and movement alone. Every interaction was carefully refined to feel intuitive long before a child understands written language.

  • Tested where it matters.

Much of the design process happened outside the studio. We spent extensive time playtesting the app in kindergartens, observing how children explored, where they became curious, and where they lost interest. Those insights shaped hundreds of small design decisions that made the experience simpler, clearer and more engaging.
